New York City’s Babcock Galleries – African Americans

New York City’s Babcock Galleries provide visitors with a rare and compelling opportunity to glimpse into a world of struggle and triumph. “African Americans: Seeing and Seen, 1766 – 1916″ brings viewers face to face with contrasting works, from “bitter brutality and cruel caricature” to “respectful revelations and positive portrayals.” With African Americans as the artists and the subjects, and with contrasting impacts, the arrangement of the works provides a provocative demonstration of the ongoing struggle for equal rights in the United States. The exhibit is on view from 1/21 – 4/2. Hours are Monday through Friday, 10am to 5pm, and Saturday by appointment.
