Don’t worry: While it may look eerie, the multitude of scarecrows assembled on the expansive lawn at Lyndhurst is a totally friendly invasion. From October 9 to 31, you can walk among 700 full-sized scarecrows, elaborately designed by local students to represent famous artists and historic figures. “Scarecrow Invasion” also features a scavenger hunt and a raffle–you might even win a family pass to another popular event, Lyndhurst’s “Boofest.Held from 5pm to 9pm on Friday October 29, “Boofest” features barn dancing, silly 19th-century mansion tours, fortune telling, witches, trick or treating and, of course, a scarecrow tour.Lyndhurst is open for tours throughout the season. Overlooking the Hudson in Tarrytown, it’s one of America’s finest Gothic Revival mansions.

Authentic furnishings include pieces by Tiffany and a renowned art collection. Noteworthy former occupants include railroad tycoon Jay Gould. Take a stroll on the park-like grounds to see beautiful gardens and spectacular river views.
