Freedom to fail breeds success
Principals basically have to commit a felony before they get the boot. And so keeping failing schools open is the new front in the war against failure.
This, the second bid in two years to block closings, with the NAACP joining the union, is the logical extension of a full-blown cultural rot.
Time and again, there is an excuse or 10 for what went wrong and a demand for more time and help.
Always there is the whine that the consequences of failure are just too harsh and must be softened or stopped.
This is what I call losing the freedom to fail, and it is not just harmless coddling.
It is a misreading of how failure can be the springboard to success and is a necessary step in character development.
